OnePlus 2 coming on July 27; Will it be priced around Rs 22,000?

It is official. The flagship OnePlus Two smartphone will be unveiled on July 27. However, the OnePlus Two launch event will not be a regular event with “an auditorium, a keynote, and a seated audience.” The startup will unveil its next flagship completely in Virtual Reality (VR). The VR launch event can be streamed by everyone.

So, how is a VR launch event different? “A VR launch lets you stand right next to our team and our fans as we unveil our new flagship. You’ll be able to look around as you check out the phone in a new way and maybe even find a few hidden Easter eggs,” says co-founder Carl Pei in the official blog. This will be the first VR launch event.

For this special launch event, OnePlus has come up with its “improved” version of Google Cardboard VR headsets, which is primarily made of paper cardboard, lens, magnets and some adhesive strips and costs between Rs 200 and Rs 300. The company is yet to announce as to how people can get or buy a cardboard headset to experience the VR launch event.

“We applaud Google Cardboard for advancing the dream of bringing VR to homes around the world, but we believe it could be even better. Even more accessible. In addition to the Cardboard 2.0 features, we’ve made a few more improvements,” according to the blog.

While the Google cardboard version is made primarily for the 5-inch Nexus 5 smartphone, the OnePlus Cardboard is expected to fit bigger smartphones. Note that NFC is required for smooth navigation on any cardboard headset.

When OnePlus entered the smartphone market with the motive of offering top-end specs at affordable prices. Going by the market trends in India, it seems OnePlus Two will be priced similar to that of the first version. We are expecting it to be priced under Rs 25,000 and don’t be surprised if the OnePlus Two comes with the same price tag of Rs 21,999.

OnePlus has revealed that the new flagship will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 version 2.1 SoC along with a USB Type-C connector.
